Hi There!
My name is Elizabeth Wavra, most of the time I go by Liz.
I was born and raised in NW Minnesota and grew up in a small town. The Catholic faith was instilled in me at a young age and has remained important to me throughout my life. Art has also always had a place in my heart from when I was young. As a child and teenager, I drew quite a bit and even dabbled in writing. I continue to have an interest in almost anything creative. For now, I am only able to draw, paint, and create custom journals. In the future, I’d like to break out into other mediums as well, such as sculpting and resin art.
In my twenties, I felt a strong call to consecrate myself to God in a particular way as a Nun! For several years I pursued this until I finally entered a monastery in Clyde, Missouri, they are called The Benedictine Sisters of Perpetual Adoration. I stayed there for about three years until I came to the realization that it may not be the place God was calling me to. But while I was there, I was immersed in prayer with the Bible (Lectio Divina), daily Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, daily recitation of the Liturgy of the Hours/Divine Office, and I had access to a large amount of art supplies! And also, importantly, there came a separation from the distractions that had replaced my interest in creativity in the previous ten years. I started to feel an urge to create! But not just anything, I wanted to create art that would communicate to the world what I was learning and feeling, I wanted to share my truths, and The Truth, with others who might be searching too. It was with great pain, but also with great purpose that I decided to leave Clyde to pursue other options.
I currently work at a local distribution center and live in a small one bedroom apartment which has a corner and a closet dedicated to art supplies. My current schedule doesn’t always afford me the time I need to be creative, but I make do!
My plans and hopes for the future are to continue exploring that possible call to religious life, or some other expression of it. To become more involved in my local parish, to publicize and sell prints of my artwork…after all, I’m not really creating it solely for me, but for you too! I look forward to exploring this idea further and to sharing this journey with all of you.
Peace be with you!
Liz
